Album Review: Gunna - WUNNA

Atlanta Star Gunna has introduced the world to the other side of his personality on his new album "Wunna". We dove straight into Gunna's new 18 track project that hosts stars such as Travis Scott, Young Thug and Roddy Rich.

Lately,  every album I have dove into has started with a heavy track and Gunna has done the same with his opening track "Argentina". Gunna raps obnoxiously over a lighter trap beat from Wheezy with his trademark catchy hooks which is a song based on a real-life situation with Gunna and the hit producer. Diving through this album you can tell Wheezy is a key element to the album with production from him on multiple tracks throughout.

One thing is guaranteed from this album and that is if you see Gunna and Young Thug release a track together in future, immediately stop what you are doing and tune in. Gunna and Thug teamed up for "Dollaz on my Head" which is crafted into another hit for both these artists. This song was made for turning up loudly in your car or at your house party, Gunna continues his arrogant and flashy style that he learnt from his mentor Thug, While Young Thug says what he wants whenever he wants and even leaves you replaying his verses like "Did he really say that?".

One song that shouldn't be swept under the rug is " Addyz" with one of Gunna's YSL teammates Nechie. This is the first song I have heard Nechie on and he makes the most of his moment and placement on this album delivering a unique verse along with his delivery. This song brings back memories of when Don Toliver was on " Can't Say" with Travis Scott and everyone was searching for Don Toliver and wanting more from an artist who was a new name for a lot of people. "Addy" is probably one of the top songs on the album from the chop and change flows to the delivery, it will be interesting to see if Nechie receives a lot more attention on his craft after this feature.

"Wunna" had everything we expected, a potential hit song with Lil Baby and Young Thug and absolute craftsmanship production from Wheezy with production on eight of the eighteen tracks. The album does have it's moments where as a listener you can zone out and it can dip but overall it's a solid piece of work from Gunna and I can't wait to see what's next.
