Her track "Boo'd Up" is one of the hottest in America at the moment, and everyone from Nicki Minaj to Quavo to Fabolous is jumping on the remix, but who is Ella Mai?

Ella Mai was born in 1994 and raised in South London, England.  In 2014, Ella auditioned for series 11 of the UK version of X Factor, and performed for the judges as part of a trio, Arize. The girls didn't make it through though, and the group broke up shortly afterwards.

She was discovered by record producer DJ Mustard after he saw her singing 15 second covers of popular songs on Instagram. Upon meeting with him, she was soon signed to his label, 10 Summers Records and moved to Los Angeles.

"Boo'd Up" was originally released in February 2017 and achieved moderate success as part of her EP 'Ready'. After solo touring and supporting Kehlani on her tour, Mai's audience grew and the song unexpectedly became her breakout track.

In June 2018, the track went platinum.

Ella Mai is yet to release her debut album. She has released three extended plays - 'Time', 'Change', both in 2016, and 'Ready' in 2017 - as part of her official EP trilogy. Before this, she had uploaded a four-song EP of originals to SoundCloud called 'Trouble'.
