Last year, Gucci Mane made headlines after he offered Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan $1 million to reunite as Rich Gang, and now he’s reflecting on what spurred his high-dollar offer. In a new interview with Everyday Struggle, Gucci explained that he was trying to show love to both artists, but ended up having to walk back his comments.

“I always liked Rich Homie Quan and I always liked Thug. I feel like together they make great music,” he said. “But that’s just like somebody saying me and one of my foes, y’all need to get back to doing songs together if we done fell out. That’s kind of disrespectful. I don’t know how the situation played out, I was locked up. I should have stayed out of it.”

Following Gucci’s tweet last year, Thugger offered a confusing response that seemed to indicate he wasn’t pleased:

Thug recently told Big Boy’s Neighborhood that the two rappers are unlikely to ever collaborate again due to personal issues. “It’s nothing about music. It’s 100 percent personal. This was my brother. Now it’s like you can probably never get the blessing of having me on a song and I can never get the blessing of having you on a song again,” he said.

Gucci, for his part, expressed regret for wading into a contentious personal issue.

“Sometimes I make mistakes. Sometimes I tweet stuff thinking I’m paying homage,” he said. “Sometimes I might say something where I feel like I’m showing love to the artist and talking about our history. Like ‘Man I’m proud of you, you came up from this.’ To me, it’s an accomplishment. It’s something to be proud of. To them I’m shining. It’s like the rules of the internet. You trying to put me down. They’ll tell me that, and I’ll have to say ‘Hey man, my bad I’m sorry.’ Because I didn’t even intend that. So sometimes I feel like just don’t put it out there.”
