The single’ Pop Out’ from Polo G featuring Lil Tjay becomes very popular lately, having more than 50 million views on youtube. But who is Polo G, and why should we pay attention to him?

Taurus Tremani Bartlett, better known as Polo G, is a rapper from Chicago, born on January 6 on 1999. He grew up alongside his parents and three other siblings in the Old Town area of north Chicago.

The rap genre became an outlet for the Windy City teen to cope with the violent loss of several family members and friends.

In 2017, Polo G started releasing tracks on YouTube, which slowly gained him a following. He then began to gain more traction as 2018 started, and began releasing songs such as ‘Never Cared’ and ‘The Come Up’. Following the release of ‘Finer Things’, a song he wrote while incarcerated in 2018, Polo G began gaining millions of views and plays on music services.

This led to large record labels expressing interest, and in December 2018 he signed a distribution deal with Columbia Records in order to keep his independence. Since then, he has released his first charting song ‘Pop Out’ featuring Lil Tjay, and ‘Battle Cry’, which has also amassed millions of views on YouTube.

Polo G was known for a Chicago-style rap sound, which involves the delivery of quick verses, similar to the likes of G Herbo and Lil Bibby. As Polo evolved as an artist, he became more melodic, similar to Lil Durk or A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

Early June, Polo G released his debut album ‘Die A Legend'.’ The album has surpassed 500,000 units sold and peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200.

Polo G is heading to New Zealand in January 2020 for Soundsplash.
