Untitled design (3).png

2019. The year Little Nas X broke records with his hit song ‘Old Town Road,’ to Lizzo dominating with ‘Truth Hurts.’ DaBaby. YBN Cordae & Megan Thee Stallion made themselves known, and won’t be going away anytime soon.

We caught up with musicians, Kings & Paige, & also Torrell from the Cougar Boys to find out their favourite tracks from 2019. You can also find my favourite tracks of the year.

Kings, Platinum Artist

Dreamville / J.Cole - SacrificesScarifices

The Revenge of the Dreamers 3 project has some dope joints. but this one stood out crazy to me. It’s a gem and I fuck with it hard.

Billie Eilish - When The Party’s Over

The melodies and production of this song are insane. Simple but sick. Songwriting is fucking dope too.

Tierra Whack - Only Child

I like how she always balances quirky with dope shit, she’s like, if Tyler The Creator was a chick that could sing.

A$AP Ferg - WAM

I listen to this shit before I play my shows. Gets my hype.

Post Malone - Hollywoods Bleeding (Album)

This was bro’s level up album. So dope, top to bottom.

Jaden / Willow Smith - ERYS (Album)

Brother and sister killing shit, they blended their styles and it’s just mean melodies and production.

Chris Brown - INDIGO

This album, in general, is dope, not my favourite, but mean. I had the first 4 songs on repeat for a while. ‘Indigo’ and ‘Back To Love’ is SICK

Travis Scott - Highest In The Room

Vibes all day with this joint (it’s lit)

Vayne - Yuck

I fucked with this joint awhile back, was re-released this year. Vayne is dope.

Kanye - Anything Kanye.

I’m one of those “Kanye can do no wrong” guys.

Paige, NZ Singer

Lauv - Sims

Benee - Find an Island

Nina Nesbitt - Last December

Ruel - Hard Sometimes

Katy Perry - Harleys in Hawaii

Leisure - All Over You

Billie Eilish - I Love You

Foley - Cola

Navvy - Scared to Be Happy

I picked these songs because a lot of them resonated with the things I was experiencing this year. I loved the production in all of these songs.

A lot of these artists have been my favourite artists to listen to through this year. I like what all of these songs have to say in them. Every song in this list creates a visual image which I love.

Torrell Tafa, Cougar Boys

Onefour - The Message

The poly boys from down under who bought the drill scene to this side of the world. These boys created a movement like no other!

Chris Brown/ Drake - No Guidance

Collab of the kings! Two of the best on a track one of the biggest songs of 2019 for sure an album from these two is what

Trey Songz Feat. Chris Brown - Chi Chi The real kings of R&b - Jacquees move aside.

Arizona Zervas  - Roxane

As a TikTok fan, this song was from an undiscovered artist with 100 subs and everyone was dancing to it- now this song is #1 all over. The power of TikTok!

Digga Diet -No diet

After OneFour introduced Drill music to this side of the world, it was only right to look for more like it. Absolute banger

H.E.R feat. Bryson Tiller - Could’ve been

Biggest fan of Bryson Tiller and his verse here - my fave R&B track from this year.

Hp Boyz - EngineersThe boys from Melbourne, that Aussie accent on a Mexican beat - the combo we never knew we needed.

Young Lipz - Misunderstood

Australian Tory Lanez vibes. This guys next if he isn’t already that guy, touring with Will Singe with only one song realised. That says something

Chris Brown - Undecided

C Breezy is the GOAT. Id put all his songs here easily., one of my favourite songs from him this year. Love when artists do remakes of old hits.

DaBaby - Suge

New artist of the year? Came out of nowhere and destroyed every song and feature. Gets the Vibe check.

Ange Matias, Hit Up Ange

J. Cole - Middle Child.

Cole can do no wrong.

Ariana Grande - 7 Rings.

I rated ‘Thank U, Next,’ and enjoyed a few of the tracks on the album. ‘7 Rings’ (original, not the 2 Chainz Remix) caught my attention and is one song that I’ve played quite a bit in 2019.

Chris Brown feat. Drake - No Guidance.

I haven’t listened to much Chris Brown over the last few years. The tracks sound the same, and I haven’t been feeling the music. ‘No Guidance’ on the other hand is a banger. We need more collabs between Breezy and Drake.

Saweetie - My Type.

At first, I didn’t like the track. I only started getting into it while driving around LA. All they would play on the radio was My Type, Suge & Goodbyes. I became a fan.

Megan Thee Stallion feat. DaBaby - Cash Shit.

Meg and DaBaby are two of my favourite rappers of 2019.  It was only right that a joint project would end of up on my list.

Post Malone feat. Young Thug - Goodbyes.

I didn’t rate Posty’s new album. ‘Goodbyes’ was the only track I really enjoyed and would listen to. Plus, it reminds me of driving in LA.

DaBaby - Suge.

For a new artist, DaBaby released one of the best tracks this year. I’m excited to see what 2020 holds for him.

YBN Cordae feat. Anderson .Paak - RNP.

That funky J. Cole beat with Cordae & Anderson . Paak spitting heat.  What’s not to like?

Normani - Motivation.

Normani is the future. That’s all.

Drax Project feat. Six60 - Catching Feelings

The blends of both groups are something special. Would love to hear more collabs from Six60 & Drax Project.
